Video Transcript

Hello and welcome to another Quicktips video.
Sometimes you might decide to change an instrument when you’re writing a score.  Take this bass guitar part for instance: I’ve now decided that I’d like to have this part played on a cello.
The quickest way to change the instrument in my score is to right-click on the staff and choose Staff Properties.
Click on the Change Instrument button here and then choose the instrument you need from the list.  Click OK, and then OK again here.

MuseScore will keep any notes you may have entered into that staff.  It will also change the name of the instrument in your score as well as the playback sound.

Thanks for watching.  You can find more tips like this one, plus a free MuseScore cheatsheet at musescoretips.com

Having changed from XP to Windows 7 I found MIDI the biggest single problem. I had midi files I couldn’t acces any more with my existing Cakewalk software. So I used another computer to save them as plain MIDI files, but often the instruments were wrong. Thanks to MuseScore and your incrdeibly useful explanation, I am now sorting all this out..

What about changing the instrument from one to another on the same stave because the performer has changed instruments half way through the music?
