On my Macbook I use Apple Quicktime, which amongst its basic A/V features enables pitch and tempo adjustments to be made.
I trialed Transcribe! for free; it's better than Quicktime since it offers more functionality for transcribing, like better equalisation control for attempting to isolate instruments in the mix, and that looping feature can be useful for learning licks.

Excellent! Thanks very much. (At first I thought, 'but piano music isn't written like that' but then when I checked out my various purchased piano music, ta-da! Exactly as you said. Notes with different duration values are written with stems up and down on the same staff. After 30 years of playin, I hadn't noticed that! I guess the old dog's not too old to learn new tricks :-)

Thanks for the insight.

So it looks like if I am looking for a piece from a movie original score and the publisher hasn't released I am going to have to hire someone to transcribe the various instruments?
